Movies about professional wrestling aren't exactly guaranteed box office hits, but 'based on the #1 New York Times Best Seller' would certainly give any potential adaptation of Mick Foley's autobiography an instant marketing hook.

Inspired to become a wrestler by the iconic Madison Square Garden Superfly Splash that he witnessed from the front row in 1985, Foley's long road to the summit of the industry from passionate fan to household name is nothing if not full of incident. Putting his body through hell to entertain audiences across the globe at the cost of an ear, several teeth, third-degree burns, punctures, countless concussions and dislocations doesn't sound like a feel-good story on paper but hey, the wrestling business is crazy.

The tale of the relatable, down-to-earth everyman that overcame the odds and became one of the biggest stars in their industry through sheer hard work and determination sounds ideal for the big screen, with Foley's coronation as one of the unlikeliest world champions in history on December 29 1998 the perfect ending to send audiences home with a smile on their face.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
