10 Wrestling Matches To Entice New Fans

7. Kazuchika Okada Vs. Kenny Omega - G1 Climax 2017

The Okada/Omega series will go down as one of the greatest in the history of the game. Each match was different from the one that came before it, building on markers laid down at each step. They were wrestling matches for wrestling fans, story-filled athletic showcases that were fuelled by chemistry and pure talent. Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega remain two of the best in the world (maybe even the top two), and these are their best matches.

Expecting a new fan to sit through an hour-long match is naive at best. No matter how good the epics are, asking a newbie to commit to them is almost as ambitious as the matches themselves. Luckily for all involved, the series involves a 24:40 banger that condensed everything that is great about Okada and Omega into one high-paced stunner. The B Block finals of the 2017 G1 Climax had it all.

Omega came out on top of this thriller, following a brutal Jay Driller and V-Trigger with the One Winged Angel, arguably the most protected finishing move in recent New Japan history. Watch this one first, catch your breath, and then watch the entire series in order.

An afternoon of Omega vs. Okada? That doesn't sound like such a bad idea, actually...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
