4. Global Wrestling Federation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZrp6wW8c3Q Lasting just three years, the Global Wrestling Federation attempted to take on the popular World Wrestling Federation and its closest competitor, World Championship Wrestling. GWF had landed itself a sweet deal as the promotion aired exclusively on ESPN beginning in June of 1991. Unlike the WWF and WCW, the Global Wrestling Federation aired five days a week on the network at 4:00 in the afternoon. The promotion featured up-and-coming stars like Jerry Lynn, the Patriot, and Cactus Jack, as well as established veterans like Jim Cornettes Midnight Express, the Fabulous Freebirds, Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert, Bad News Allen, and Gentleman Chris Adams. Quite frankly, the promotion had a decent roster of stars, however, it struggled to find its footing. GWF also introduced some innovations in the world of professional wrestling. Unlike the big two, the Global Wrestling Federation did not ignore wrestlers pasts or other promotions. Instead, GWF acknowledge the accomplishments of its stars while in other territories. As the company was primarily based in Dallas, Texas -- and used the Dallas Sportatorium, dubbed the GlobalDome, as its home -- the GWF featured a great deal of stars from the defunct World Class Championship Wrestling territory. The companys biggest moment came with the debut of Chris Adams and the Dallas return of Kerry Von Erich -- hot off a run with the WWF as the Texas Tornado. However, while Kerrys return home helped the promotion initially, they were unable to ride the wave of resurgence for very long. After changing ownership and direction a number of times, the GWF folded in 1994. Reportedly, Vince McMahon and the WWE purchased the Global Wrestling Federations tape library in 2013. Makes you wonder if any GWF footage will ever show up on the WWE Network.
