5. Changing The Format
In terms of NXT’s format, would they benefit from having two-hours and the show being live - not pre-taped - or do you think the format at the minute is good enough?
"It’s debunked the myth that people don’t watch shows if they know the results. The spoilers thing [...] changed because of Netflix. People are used to watching things in bulk - like the tournaments and stuff like that - you go back and watch them, you don’t really care if you know who the winner is.
For the wrestling business, it’d be a good idea for everyone to just have a bit more time off. I think NXT could go to two hours, or it could go to two one-hour shows, but I think the problem with having a big roster and feeling like you have to use everybody all the time is… well, you don’t! [...] It’s not about value for money (in that you’ve got to run people into the ground) and I think that the problem with the main roster is that there’s not enough time for people to perform because they’re trying to get everybody on.
Taking somebody away from TV for six weeks is enough to still have that vague familiarity, but have forgotten the character, unless it was really bad. That’s what ECW used to do really well, and most of that was because people would go to WCW for a year and leave and come back, but I think it’s important to have rotation."
