10 Wrestling Stables That Never Fulfilled Their Potential
4. Aces And Eights
Whilst overall Aces and Eights was a messy main event stable/storyline, it was also one of TNA's biggest long-term bookings in its history. Whilst unfortunately they failed to stick the landing, hence the stable's place on this list, TNA should be commended for being patient and slowly revealing members, whilst keeping their attacks and dominance rather fresh. With WWE currently trying the RETRIBUTION angle, they should take some notes on avoiding repetition and keeping fans invested.
Aces and Eights ended up being two things: an attempt to cash in harder than Edge at the booming success of biker-gang TV hit Sons of Anarchy, and unfortunately another string in the bonkers bow that was the Hogan family within TNA. The group started strong, attacking a well-known, beloved face in the Icon Sting, whilst sending a message to Hogan. Dressed as masked bikers, armed with chains, and attacking wrestlers indiscriminate of heel or face status, the gang genuinely felt a dangerous group within their first few months.
Eventually, members such as Devon of Team 3D and DOC "Luke" Gallows were revealed, with fans rather indifferent about the lack of starpower. Whilst Mr Anderson would join, the biggest reveal was the leader: Bully Ray. Whilst this made for a shock, since Ray was marrying target Hogan's daughter, it made no sense, as Ray himself had feuded with them earlier in the year. Whilst TNA tried to explain, fans balked at the logic. Things were only made worse with the kayfabe firing and hiring of new gang members, leaving the Eights to dissolve quietly.
