10 Wrestling Stars WWE Should Never Have Let Get Away
1. AJ Styles
Yes, AJ Styles is currently in WWE, and he's had one of the best opening years in company history. Since debuting at the Royal Rumble, he's headlined Pay-Per-Views, beat up John Cena, and won the WWE World Championship. Each successive year in the career of "The Phenomenal One" seems to get better.
It's an inescapable fact, though, that Styles is 39 years old. He may be a new arrival in the company's main-event scene, but he won't be headlining in 10 years. He probably won't even be on top in five. Indeed, part of the reason Styles even came to WWE was so his last few years in the sport could be as financially rewarding as possible.
Still, WWE could have had 15 years of Styles, had they been more invested in signing him. In 2002, Styles worked a single match for the company (he lost to The Hurricane on Metal), then was offered a developmental deal. As it was only for a paltry $500 a week, though, Styles decided not to uproot his family and interfere with his wife's schooling.
Styles, of course, went on to win a boatload of titles in TNA and dominate New Japan before finally arriving in WWE anyway. Nevertheless, if anybody in WWE ever wishes they had more time to make money with Styles, they should be reminded that they had the chance.
