10 Wrestling 'Truths' We’ll Never Get An Answer To

4. Was Owen Hart Going To Retire From Wrestling?

VICE's 'Dark Side Of The Ring' episode on Owen Hart is a grim watch. It includes personal footage (shared by his widow Martha) that shows Owen wishing upon the stars he could make enough money from wrestling to retire and spend more time with his family. That, it appears, was his plan.

How long would he have kept wrestling? That's the million dollar question.

Had Hart not tragically passed away at Over The Edge 1999, he may have retired from the ring a few years later. On the doc, Martha revealed that her husband repeatedly tried to quit wrestling so he could work as a fireman and be home more. The gruelling road life clearly didn't appeal much to a humble family man like Owen.

The sad thing is that nobody will ever know how long Hart would've kept going. Chris Jericho pointed out on his podcast that Owen would've had blistering matches with emerging talents like himself, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. Maybe/maybe not - he could've called it quits before they found their feet in the company.
