10 WWE Angles Wrestlers Wish They’d Turned Down

2. Shawn Michaels Wrestles With “God”

The Shawn Michaels who pranced onto screens and stole the show was still there in 2006. The one who acted like a diva behind the scenes was largely gone though, and few were unhappy to see the back of him. HBK was reborn through religion and wanted to spread the word of God to anybody who would listen.

Teaming with him on pay-per-view was a bit far mind.

Shawn surely screws up his face whenever he thinks back to Backlash '06. He "teamed with" the deity opposite Vince and Shane McMahon, and it was as crap as it sounds. WWE used a spotlight to mimic "God's" presence. Meanwhile, countless fans wondered why this was deemed worthy of their pay-per-view dollars.

A religious soul like Michaels, looking back, must feel like this was in poor taste. Hindsight makes things easy to solve, but this was a poor, borderline-offensive booking ploy that poorly exploited Shawn's born again nature. Wrestling and religion just don't mix.
