3. Steve Austin Aligns With Vince McMahon

Perhaps it's no surprise that Austin turned down the stalker gig - he'd already suffered through one bad idea earlier in '01 that would come to haunt him for the rest of his career. The still-popular 'Stone Cold' shook hands with Vince McMahon and dispatched The Rock at WrestleMania X-Seven.

Aligning with his arch-nemesis, and the man who had been his polar opposite for years, was an error of judgement. Austin repeatedly brings this up to guests on his 'Broken Skull Sessions' show on WWE Network and Peacock. It's the kind of moment he wishes upon the stars he hadn't seen through.

Steve yearns to go back, kick McMahon in the gut and Stunner him in front of a cheering crowd.

His heel turn was a flop. Fans refused to boo Austin regardless of his efforts, and the experiment lasted less than a year. Becoming McMahon's puppet and part of the 'Two Man Power Trip' with old rival Triple H was lamentable stuff.
