10 WWE Attitude Era PPV Matches That Are Severely Underrated
9. Triple H Vs. The Rock - Fully Loaded 1998
Owed at least in part to the fact that Triple H is widely regarded as one of the most overrated wrestlers to ever step foot in a WWE ring, you'd be hard-pressed to find an avid wrestling fan that would rank a Hunter match in their top 10--or maybe even top 1,000--of all time. And that's fair. Triple H obviously wasn't as technically gifted as the likes of Shawn Michaels or Ricky Steamboat. But he was able to turn it on when he wanted to, delivering an intense (if not necessarily flashy) performance at times. Case in point: his first major feud with The Rock. It pushed him to heights he'd never been before (or possibly since) in terms of sheer exuberance and workmanship in the ring. This was a time when he and The Rock were battling it out for the Intercontinental Championship and trying to prove they could be "the guy" in the company, with Stone Cold Steve Austin suffering a neck injury the year before. Though occasionally given their due for the '98 SummerSlam Ladder Match, it was their 2 out of 3 falls match a month later at Fully Loaded in '98 that stands as a testament to both performers' stamina and storytelling abilities. There was a host of exciting exchanges, including an awesome triple reversal into a DDT halfway through the match, and a good use of the environment outside the ring. Sure, the repeated interference gets a little zany and those 60 second intermissions between falls are momentum killers, but The Rock and Triple H had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands right until the very end. Really, this match was simply overshadowed by its disappointing finish--the time limit expired just before Triple H pinned Rock for the second time. That was a deflating way to end what was possibly the most solid meeting between two of the top talents in the company.
