6. Alberto Del Rio Slaps Cody Barbierri - WWE Backstage 2014
Unlike the other entries on the list, this is a slap that we all heard but none of us actually got to see. In summer of this year, WWE Social Media Manager Cody Barbierri allegedly made a racist remark about Del Rio, saying something along the lines of it was Del Rios job to clean the dishes you know, because he is Hispanic and all. If youre not laughing, thats fine because its not funny. Understandably Del Rio took exception to this and confronted Barbierri, and gave him a bitch slap powerful enough that it knocked Barbierri to the ground and apparently made quite the scene. Despite the fact that you could argue the slap was probably pretty well deserved or at least very unsurprising, Del Rio was fired amid a storm of publicity and general antipathy from fans and fellow wrestlers alike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIkP70WdBBM Del Rio may not have been Stone Cold Steve Austin, but as a former World Heavyweight Champion, and a very talented worker to boot, he was a catastrophic loss as wrestlers started to fall like dominoes in the latter half of 2014. Of even more impact though was the image damage the affair did to WWE as a whole. With this one action, WWE managed to alienate swathes of its Hispanic fan base, and set in stone the perception that there are major problems with racism and racial insensitivity within WWE. And it's safe to say these fears have not been alleviated by the creation of the stereotyped and woefully outdated New Day gimmick amidst some of the most significant racial tensions the US has seen in years.
