Looking to replicate both Kurt's run as 'Euro-Continental' Champion and his unlikely WWE Title triumph in his first year as a singles star, Jordan enters the Royal Rumble early and manages to gut it out through a final four spot before being eliminated by Samoa Joe.

Lasting just over an hour, his guts and determination are clear to see, and the following night on Raw, he pledges to make good on his promise to his father by holding on to the Intercontinental Title as long as possible until a new shot at the Universal Championship emerges.

Sensing an opportunity to the pick the bones of the exhausted titleholder, The Miz goads him into one last shot there and then, and steals his beloved championship back after a cynical run-in attack from fellow Rumble runner up Joe.

After hitting a brutal uranage onto the ring apron to Jordan, 'The Samoan Submission Machine' stomps off, leaving him easy pickings for Miz to claim back his prize. It's Jordan's first pinfall defeat on the Raw roster, and will also write him off television for several weeks as he recovers from the brutal and seemingly unprovoked assault.
