With Samoa Joe vanquished, Jordan makes clear his intention to chase Universal Title glory in his first year as a tribute to his wildly successful father, but is met with a surprising roadblock following another chaotic 'Superstar Shake-up'.

Unbeknownst to Kurt (as trades apparently were to both sets of authority figures in the last variant of the format), Chad Gable will make his way to Raw, having floundered badly as a singles star since his partner's sudden switch to the flagship show.

An awkward reunion is made smoother when Gable suggests they team together for one night only to celebrate his first match on the red brand, but the match collapses when Chad turns on Jordan before the bell rings. Embittered at the strange circumstances that fell into his partner's lap the prior year, Gable later admits he never forgave Jordan for abandoning the team for his personal journey of discovery.

He notes American Alpha's invisibility on SmackDown Live! whilst Jordan was busy hunting for his biological parents, and blames his year-long slump squarely on his former comrade.

The two feud, with Gable coming up on the short end of a majestic best-of-seven series but left established as a reborn superstar despite the loss.
