10 WWE Face/Heel Turns That Must Happen In 2021
1. Johnny Gargano Turns Face
It’s time.
Johnny Gargano has done his best as a midcard heel in NXT over the course of the last year, doing a much better job than many fans expected in the position. While his tweener run of late 2018 and the early months of his heel turn in 2020 lead to cringe-worthy moments, Gargano has found his new comedic character and feels confident as an antagonist.
But turning him heel in the first place without any major narrative decision was a huge mistake and still feels like the wrong decision.
Gargano has currently reached the maximum potential for his heel run and while his character work has been significantly improved, his matches as an antagonist are far weaker than his babyface performances. His style, selling and psychology all suit performing as a hero and he’s come nowhere close to his best work in 2020. He’s not lost his skills but he’s one of the best wrestlers in the world under the right circumstances, and the heel run is detracting from his magnificent talents.
NXT is in need of a top babyface and if Gargano’s going to stay on the black and yellow brand, he should become a face again.
