10 WWE Fates Worse Than Death
2. Getting Intimate…With Your Own Family!
At times, it was almost like the WWF wanted Mark Henry to call quits on his jump from Olympic weightlifting to pro wrestling. He'd started off as a babyface Olympian in 1996 and joined the Nation Of Domination in 1998, but nothing seemed to be getting him over. Then, somebody came up with the bright idea of outing Mark as a sex addict who needed "Sex Therapy" sessions on Raw in 1999.
During those skits, Henry revealed that he’d been addicted to sex since childhood and had even had relations with his own sister. Just stop talking, mate. Of course, this created the cult-classic ’Sexual Chocolate’ gimmick and led to his onscreen romance with pensioner Mae Young, but man...Mark must've thought someone backstage wanted him gone if this was all they had in mind for him.
The WWF booked actual incest on their programming, or at least hinted at it happening with one of their superstars. What's more, Henry said that he wasn't really ashamed of it. He'd have sex with anybody close to him. Hell, he wanted to get it on with the therapist too. This was peak 'Attitude Era' raunch, but it backed Mark into a corner as a ridiculously-perverted character who'd stop at nothing to get his rocks off.
In hindsight, he'd have been forgiven for saying: 'Just throw me into the abyss on TV and call it a day, guys'.
Becoming the first WWF/WWE star to officially brag about having sex with a member of his own family was sure something. It wasn't reality, clearly, but Henry waxed lyrical about all of the hijinks he'd get up to as a kid. Eek! That's dangerous territory for sure, and not the sort of thing anybody expects to see when they tune into a wrestling program.
