1. The King Of Kings Rejects His Crown

Even though he had to wait a year longer than originally planned to be crowned King of the Ring, that didn't stop Hunter Hearst Helmsley from rejecting what was to be a tweaked gimmick for him following that victory.

After winning the 1997 King of the Ring tournament, the plan was for Helmsley to properly play up the King element of his latest achievement. And for that, it meant that the future multiple-time World Champion was to proudly parade around in his freshly-won crown.

The only thing is, Hunter hated that idea. So much so, he would purposely destroy his King of the Ring props in order to not be left looking a royal idiot.

As Bruce Prichard explained on his Something to Wrestle With podcast:

"It was hilarious how many times and how many different sceptres that we had for Triple H that he destroyed. He hated wearing the crown, hated the sceptre, hated the cape, so he would just tear them up any time they'd get him a new one. It was, 'Hey man, you're the King of the Ring, Vince wants you to wear the crown and the cape'. 'I don't wanna wear it, it's hokey, I'm not gonna wear that f**king sh*t, it's a f**king plastic crown, it looks like sh*t, I'm gonna f**king destroy it every f**king night'."

Hunter Hearst Helmsley would get his way here, with him soon to form an alliance with Shawn Michaels, begin going by the name Triple H, and a little faction called D-Generation X would be created barely two months after King of the Ring.
