7. The Rock

The Rock High School Photo Look at that rascal moustache. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was born May 2, 1972 in Hayward California. His father Rocky Johnson was a professional wrestler, as was his maternal grandfather, "High Chief" Peter Maivia. His maternal grandmother, Lia Maivia, was one of wrestling's few female professional promoters. Johnson lived in Auckland, New Zealand, with his mother's family where he attended Richmond Road Primary School, before returning to the United States a short while later. Dwayne spent 10th grade at President William McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii before he was forced to move to Bethlehem Pennsylvania due to his father's job. This is where The Rock became serious about American Football, also joining the school's track and field and wrestling teams. Johnson was a college football player for the University of Miami, winning a national championship as part of the 1991 Miami Hurricanes football team. He was on a a full scholarship from the University of Miami to play defensive tackle. He graduated from Miami in 1995, with a Bachelor of General Studies degree in criminology and physiology. Later, The Rock played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League, and was cut two months into the 1995 season. Like so many more of his family members, Dwayne turned to wrestling. Pat Patterson got Johnson several tryout matches with the World Wrestling Federation in 1996. Under his real name, he defeated The Brooklyn Brawler at a house show. In the summer of 1996, Johnson signed his first 'WWF' contract. He received additional training from Tom Prichard, Achim Albrecht and Mark Henry before making his debut as Rocky Maivia at Survivor Series 1996.
