10 WWE Legends Who Tapped Out To Kurt Angle
4. The Undertaker - SmackDown, July 2002
Few superstars have been so well protected in their careers as The Undertaker. While his WrestleMania streak may have been ended by Brock Lesnar, a final score of 24-2 is nothing to sniff at. What the phenom doesn’t do, however, is tap out. Or anyway he didn’t, until he came up against Kurt Angle in 2002.
This being The Undertaker, there were extenuating circumstances. In this SmackDown bout, ‘Taker lifts Angle for the last ride, only for the Olympian to lock in a triangle choke hold. As Angle squeezes the life out of Undertaker, the big man drops to the ground, placing both of Kurt’s shoulders on the mat. As the referee counts the pin, Undertaker simultaneously taps, leading to a controversial finish that never really works in wrestling. While the Deadman is given a little bit of a get out, the fact is he did tap.
He wouldn’t do this again until SummerSlam 2015, where he tapped to Brock Lesnar, though this wasn’t caught by the referee. It’s an odd set of circumstances, really: The Undertaker is willing to tap out in some instances, but only if it doesn’t go down on his match record.
