10 WWE-Like Moments In Real Sport

1. MMA - Jonno Mears vs. Aaron Jones

The actual effectiveness of pro wrestling finishers in a combat scenario is a rich topic for conversation. Sweet Chin Music looked like it could be genuinely fight ending, whereas if we’re honest, the Mandible Claw, for all of Mick Foley’s charm, was always a bit suspect.

Luckily for those watching FCC 19 in September 2017, a real life experiment was about to play out. Jonno Mears was facing off against Aaron Jones in a welterweight bout, with the slightly more experienced Mears immediately looking the more comfortable fighter. With the first round still young, Jones would force his opponent onto his front and lock in a Boston Crab, adopted from Chris Jericho’s Walls of Jericho finisher.

The move is not often used in MMA, as a competent fighter should not be finding themselves in this position, or at least be able to find a way out, raising questions of Jones’ suitability at this level of the sport. Jericho himself would go on to approve of the use of the move on Twitter.
