8. Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine

Speaking of Irwin, his first ever PPV opponent (while portraying the Tax Man gimmick) was against none other than the number 8 entrant on this list, Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine.

Valentine holds a distinction that few others on this list have and that is being a WWE Hall Of Famer. Still, despite the accolade, Valentine is not always mentioned among the better wrestlers of the '80s.

A former Intercontinental Champion back when the IC title was an enormous accomplishment, 'The Hammer' wrestled for the WWE for over a decade, appearing in numerous WrestleManias, SummerSlams, and Royal Rumbles. As his career progressed, he was often used to help put over the younger talent while teaching them, helping them grow inside the ring.

Valentine was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame during the weekend of WrestleMania XX, but has not been a featured legend since that time.

Despite the lack of attention today, Valentine "could go" as they say, and his early work in the late '70s and early '80s proved that he was as good as anyone in the business at that time.
