Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa have been a joy to watch this year. They’ve become one of the world’s best tag teams as DIY, and their string of matches with The Revival stands among the greatest tag contests that WWE has ever produced. Furthermore, they’re two of the most naturally likeable babyfaces in the company (Gargano in particular), and their grit, heart, and passion are unparalleled.
They’ve got the NXT Tag Team Champions for now, but there’s no guarantee they’ll hold onto them for long. The Authors Of Pain have a title shot in the chamber after winning the Dusty Classic, TM-61 are rising up behind them, and Sanity will soon stake their claim. NXT’s tag division is as competitive as it has ever been, and Gargano & Ciampa have a set of giant targets on their back.
It’d be a smart move to work DIY onto the main roster as soon as they lose the titles and have exercised their obligatory rematch clause. SmackDown and Raw are both light on credible face teams at the moment, but they’d also be a huge credit to 205 Live. The only real reason to keep them down in NXT would be to pull the trigger on the long awaited split angle, but there’s no reason WWE couldn’t tell the same story on the main roster instead.
