There's an argument to be made that WWE have killed interest in the King Of The Ring due to years of cobbled-together tournaments and poor follow up. Some younger fans may be surprised to learn that there was a time when the event was one of the premier shows on the pay-per-view calendar, largely shaping the rest of the year and providing a lot of entertainment along the way. Fast forward to 'King' Barrett's 2015 disaster, and it's clear that it'd take some work to rekindle the spark King Of The Ring once had. However, it's not impossible, and a pay-per-view tournament to crown a new top contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Title may just work. WWE would have to tread carefully, but it's far from impossible. There's still love for the concept, it's just that fans realise WWE view it as a secondary concept nowadays. In order for it to work, that would need to change. The performer who won the next King Of The Ring would simply have to be meaningful, instead of throwing a cornball outfit as someone and claiming them as royalty.
