8. Longest WWE Match - 81 Minutes

There is something of an assumed perception in professional wrestling that in order for a match to be truly great, it must go long. In 2016, we generally consider anything over 25 minutes to be long, and as of right now the longest (non-Royal Rumble) match of 2016 saw The Undertaker and Shane McMahon go at it at WrestleMania for just over 30 minutes. Their entrances took around 25.

With that in mind, could we see something pass the all-time record for longest match in WWE history? Erm, no, we won't. The longest match in World Wrestling Entertainment history was a barnstorming (probably) 81-minute draw between Bruno Sammartino and Waldo Von Erich in 1964.

The only reason that match ended was because of a curfew, so there's no telling how long it would have gone if Madison Square Garden was having an all-nighter. What price Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor going 82 minutes at SummerSlam? Anyone?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
