10 WWE Rematches Absolutely Nobody Wanted To See

8. Yokozuna Vs. Lex Luger

Panicked by a fractured relationship with Hulk Hogan in the summer of 1993, Vince McMahon made a last gasp effort to recapture lightning in a bottle akin to the 'Hulkamania' movement of the late 1980s by decking similarly musclebound Lex Luger in an American Flag and literally bussing him around the country to canvas support.

It sort of worked, but Vince bottled making the big switch at the climax of the expensive 'Lex Express' tour, having Luger defeat evil foreign menace WWE Champion Yokozuna by count-out only.

Lex was doomed from that point, not least because the SummerSlam '93 headliner had been absolute garbage, and the company's core audience had become rather more expectant during Bret Hart's stewardship earlier that year. However, fans had soured on his ability to topple the Sumo titleholder, and told the company as much when their cheers were used to highlight the disparity in support between co-Royal Rumble winners Luger and Hart the following January.

Bret's climactic return to WWE's summit at WrestleMania X was an apology of sorts from McMahon, but he had one final punishment to unleash on his own audience before the satisfying conclusion. Luger and Yoko worked again, going nearly 15 unnecessary minutes before the match once more ended cheaply. Rogue referee Mr Perfect disqualified Luger for (amongst other things) bringing Mr Fuji into the match. Luger never got near the title again.
