Punk and Bryan have a history, as both fierce rivals and advantageous allies, it is almost impossible for AEW to ignore this. We would welcome either a do over of their conflict or their wildly entertaining 2013 team-up.
The duo first came onto each other's radars when Punk was WWE Champion and Bryan held the World Heavyweight Championship. With their first three clashes, WWE bookers teased fans with the potential. Their first was interrupted by AEW stalwart Chris Jericho, the second involved two restarts and a double pin, and the third a shambling mess that combined the previous two intrusions. Their pay-per-view bout ended in a simultaneous submission and pin, though, Punk was declared victorious. It's odd that their Special Referee match was their least screwy.
Hopefully, AEW doesn't tease us with this bout, and we get at least one fair fight.
