10 WWE Reunions That Were False Dawns
1. The Shield (2017, 2018 And 2019)
Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose would orbit for years as adversaries (even contesting a famous Triple Threat at Battleground for the WWE Championship) and teased reforming The Shield in the odd match - Survivor Series 2016's triple powerbomb on AJ Styles sticking out.
It was only in October 2017, when all three Shield members found themselves on RAW, that the trio realigned to take down The Bar and the Miztourage. This run lasted two months as Ambrose went down injured in December, leaving Reigns and Rollins to pursue singles interests.
2018 came about and the three united to defend Roman Reigns' newly earned Universal Title from Braun Strowman cash-in, the night after SummerSlam. This set up a dismal Shield Vs Dogs of War (Strowman, Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler) programme before Reigns relinquished the gold due to his leukaemia re-diagnosis. This lead to a Dean Ambrose heel turn, and the less said about that distasteful programme the better.
Finally, in 2019, the group looked set to reestablish their hold over the WWE roster, with Reigns overcoming cancer and Ambrose and Rollins settling their differences. They won the main event bout of Fastlane and Rollins would go on to be crowned Universal Champion at WrestleMania 35. The three would wrestle their last match together on April 21st 2019, due to Ambrose not renewing his contract.
Three times it looked as though the WWE were set to capitalise on the most popular stable they'd produced in decades. Three times, through injuries and contractual circumstances, they failed.
