It goes without saying that The Miz's earnings in WWE are not dictated by either his in-ring ability, his drawing power, or even his position on the card (although, hey, he was in the main of event of WrestleMania. Sorry, did you all repress that memory?)

So why does the former reality TV star earn something in the region of a million dollars?

It can't be his contribution to WWE Studios, a loss-making business one can only hope exists for money laundering purposes. I mean, the movies don't turn a profit, and there's certainly no artistic merit behind any of the pictures. Santa's Little Helper included.

Sure, The Miz has been much improved this year, but he was coming from a pretty low base indeed. And even if he did a thousand promos as good as the Talking Smack! rant, it could still never justify a seven figure contract. It'd take the metempsychosis of the soul of Dusty Rhodes himself to push him even close to a level where he could earn that sort of money for his promos alone. The Rock, he ain't.
