10 WWE Stars That Should Have Won The World Title Sooner
7. Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero is another star who departed the company,
made a comeback, and became a far bigger name than he’d even been before. But
while Christian’s world title win should probably have arrived a year or two
quicker than it did, Eddie’s case is a little different.
The general timing for his push was right, as his massive popularity would see him rise to WWE Championship glory at No Way Out 2004, yet I can’t help but feel that his coronation would have been all the more meaningful had it arrived just a few weeks prior at the Royal Rumble instead.
Don’t get me wrong, his win over Brock Lesnar at No Way Out is the kind of moment that still to this day I find myself going back and re-watching, but that match was partly used as a means to build Lesnar’s thoroughly underwhelming WrestleMania XX meeting with Goldberg.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that at that Royal Rumble event we saw Brock defend against Hardcore Holly in a match that had “filler feud” plastered all over it. It took The Next Big Thing about five minutes to dispose of bully Bob.
Surely it wouldn’t have hurt to bring Eddie’s win forward a few weeks, and have him celebrate his much-deserved first world title on the far grander stage of the Rumble?
