Yes, The Patriot.

When Bret Hart turned heel in 1997 he did so on the back of some fabulous anti-American tirades, claiming that the people of the USA hadn't shown him the respect he deserved. Hart ripped the good ol' US of A from pillar to post, holding nothing back in his vitriolic speeches.

The people of the States needed a hero, someone to stand up for those American value, someone to rouse pride in the flag once again.

Instead, they got this guy.

Del Wilkes had six-month tenure with the WWF as The Patriot, and immediately found himself in a feud with Hart. He challenged Bret for the WWF Championship at In Your House: Ground Zero after defeating the champ in a non-title match on RAW. At Ground Zero he was less successful, eventually tapping out to the Sharpshooter.

Most will have forgotten The Patriot by now, but his legacy lived on in one of the most iconic theme songs of all time. He came out to a tune called 'Medal', which you most likely automatically chant 'You Suck' along with when you hear it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
