A veritable tag-team specialist, Pat Tananka came to prominence in the AWA as one half of Badd Company with Paul Diamond. Having a year long reign with the AWA Tag Team Championship after defeating the Midnight Rockers, Tanaka soon joined Michaels and Jannetty in WWE in 1990.

One of many AWA stars who made the jump before the company's closure in 1991, Tanaka began what would be his most memorable role in wrestling, as one half of the Orient Express.

Managed by the devious Mr. Fuji, Tanaka initially teaming with Akio Sato, before Sato returned to Japan and was replaced by Diamond, as the masked Kato.

Reigniting their feud with the Rockers, the Express were an ever present on WWE TV until Tanaka left WWE in 1992. After reuniting briefly as Badd Company in WCW and ECW, he took on a singles role in 1994 as Tanaka-San before reemerging in 1996 as El Gato.

Wearing a rip off Tiger Mask hood and emerging to what would be Bill Goldberg's entrance music, El Gato's sole notable achievement in the Monday Night War was a pay-per-view loss to US Champion Konnan at the Great American Bash in 1996.
