10 WWE Storylines From 2017 That Will Never Be Resolved

4. A King In Your Ear

Triple H Jason Jordan
WWE

Ahead of the incredible Festival Of Friendship segment, Triple H was seen in full Littlefinger mode, whispering in the ear of Kevin Owens, orchestrating some Machiavellian plot. This set in motion Owens' gut-punch of a betrayal. Very quickly, rumours of a retooled Evolution 2.0 - Trips was also responsible for promoting Samoa Joe to RAW - ran rampant. Who was the fourth man? Pete Dunne? Adam Cole? Would WWE continue their march towards progressivism, and instal Charlotte in the group?

That plot never materialised - possibly because WWE has no idea of or care for what happens one week to the next, we can't be sure. Something was definitely brewing - nothing happens on WWE TV by accident, save for a Kalisto botch - but, for whatever reason, said plot was abandoned despite its genuinely major ramifications. Triple H is so deliriously focused on setting up his mandated 'Mania match, his next programme, that twice now he's positioned Owens as a puppet devoid of any agency.

They might revisit this in a few years' time, settling this clandestine business at WrestleMania 35, or something. Three years of foreshadowing in order to yield a 25 minute match nobody in the stadium cares about.

It's all about The Game.
