10 WWE Storylines That Saved Wrestling Careers

1. The Undertaker's Brother Is Alive (Kane)

If Bradshaw thought he had it rough before hitting big with the JBL gimmick, then spare a thought for one Glenn Jacobs. Between 1995-97, Jacobs filled the roles of Isaac Yankem DDS and a Halloween costume version of Kevin Nash's Diesel character.

Things were not going well. Then, another, seemingly short-lived, opportunity came along.

When Paul Bearer started shrieking that The Undertaker's brother Kane was alive, it made sense that the new character would appear, pose a threat to 'Taker then be vanquished like so many other monstrous foes had been over the years. Nobody, literally nobody, could have suspected that Kane would still be going strong over 20 years later.

This was the storyline that saved Jacobs' WWE career. As the emotionless Kane, he hit a home run and impressed Vince McMahon to the point his stint under the mask became permanent. The demons of evil dentists and rent-a-Diesel were exorcised, and introducing Kane in late-1997 turned into one of WWE's best ever decisions.
