10 WWE Storylines We'd Like To See In 2018
1. The Streak...Is Over
Asuka's undefeated streak must end at some point. That death must gut the crowd and plunge them into a state of pure grief - and the best way of accomplishing that end is with the double tap.
Bayley, of course, is already dead in the babyface role. Through a fit of fetid booking, we have reached a point at which the most pure, joyous babyface in the post-kayfabe age is now unrecognisable. If Bayley is the one to end Asuka's streak, through nefarious means, the double murder scene will create a highly-anticipated rematch, a brand new act with an unprecedented level of intrigue, and an emotionally-charged climax to an increasingly problematic character arc. Whomever ends the Streak is virtually guaranteed a heel reaction, anyway - and there is zero value in wasting such a momentous victory on, say, a Nia Jax. That Braun Strowman-level improvement simply isn't happening, and the resentment would kill her for good.
Not that WWE is remotely bothered, but there's some continuity to explore here, too: you can trace Bayley's fall from grace directly to the Empress; after losing her cherished NXT Women's Title to her, the Bayley character only briefly recovered form in the months and years since.
There is shock, substance and longevity to this scenario - in that, at this point, some form of redemption is required to begin to care about babyface Bayley.
