10 WWE Superstars Held Back By Scripted Promos

5. Roman Reigns

Considering near unanimous rejection as WWE's top babyface from most televised audiences, Roman Reigns has absolutely been held back because of bad writing and scripted promos. Roman's positioning as heir apparent to the WWE throne has been anything but organic, but Roman is capable of so much more than being a poster boy for all that's wrong with WWE creative.

Take a look at the 2017 Royal Rumble to see how natural and believable Reigns looked playing the heel after eliminating The Undertaker. His facial expression was incredible and it echoed a sentiment he clearly felt and the words he spoke, "This is my yard now." A far cry from "Sufferin' Succotash, Son!", for a moment, the fans finally believed in Roman Reigns.

Were Roman allowed the creative freedom to pull more from within himself, it would have to be - at least initially - as a heel. With time, he could still become the most over superstar in WWE. As it is, WWE continues to try and insert a square peg into a round hole without even attempting to shave off the corners first.
