10 WWE Superstars Who Need A Character Change
8. Neville
Neville has found himself in a similar situation to the aforementioned Jack Swagger, his saving grace being that he has been in this position for a much shorter period of time.
Neville burst onto the WWE scene in the early days of NXT, where he would go on to hold the NXT Title for 287 days. During his title reign, he had a memorable feud with Sami Zayn, even showing heelish qualities to hold on to his title by any means necessary. Without a doubt, he was able to showcase some character development on top of his obviously impressive athletic and in-ring prowess.
Shortly after losing his title, The Man That Gravity Forgot debuted on Raw as ‘The New Sensation’ and received fairly strong midcard-level booking, even reaching the final of the newly relaunched King of the Ring tournament.
Following the conclusion of his comic book inspired feud with Stardust, Neville’s booking took a downward turn in that, although he still got his fair share of wins, he seemed to have no real direction going forward. During this period, he suffered an ankle injury, which would keep him out of action for four months.
Normally, a superstar who comes back from injury receives at least a bit of a push upon their return. However, this wasn’t the case for the man from Newcastle. He returned to Raw shortly after the draft and has been stuck in a sort of limbo ever since, picking up the odd win here-and-there when he does appear on TV and even being put in a tag team with a similarly directionless Sami Zayn.
Clearly, something needs to change before Neville slides down the card and his WWE career is ruined seemingly beyond repair (see: Jack Swagger).
