10 WWE Superstars Who Need A Character Change
5. John Cena
He was always going to pop up somewhere on this list, wasn’t he?
A potential John Cena heel turn has been one of the most talked about potential events in wrestling for a number of years, now. People have been clamouring for the leader of the Cenation to join the dark side ever since he reached the very top of the industry. A lot were even happy for the now 15-time World Champion to break The Undertaker’s fabled undefeated streak at WrestleMania, just as long as he turned heel in the process.
Granted, a few years ago, at the height of his domination, John would have been much higher on this list. It seemed as though everyone, other than the younger members of the ‘WWE Universe,’ was sick and tired of seeing Cena constantly in the main event picture and around the title scene.
However, recently he seems to have taken a step back and over the last year or so he’s actually put quite a few superstars over. He almost single-handedly cemented AJ Styles, arguably the best performer in WWE right now, as a main event player.
Nevertheless, there’ll always be that feeling of ‘what if’ if ‘the Face That Runs the Place’ never eventually turns heel. In fact, now is arguably the best time for WWE to take the risk, with Cena’s schedule seemingly winding down, along with the presence of other established, top faces, such as Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns (don’t worry, we’ll get to him later).
WWE is, in theory, less reliant on Cena as the top face of the company and, with a bit of luck, that will mean WWE is more willing to pull the trigger on a John Cena heel turn.
