10 WWE Things That Must Happen Before WrestleMania 38
9. Build & Build & Build & Build
Bianca Belair's star-making process didn't end when she held the SmackDown Women's Championship aloft at WrestleMania 37. Scoring that almighty victory, in the best Show of Shows main event in years, was but the next step in a long, winding process that could take years to complete. Now, WWE must stay the course.
No WWE wrestler has a higher ceiling than Belair, who lacks nothing. She radiates confidence, projects character, feels 10ft tall in the ring, wrestles and talks well, and is an elite athlete across the board. She has what it takes to succeed where others have failed by becoming a legitimate business-driving star in an era largely devoid of them, but it's critical that WWE doesn't assume WM37 was "job done" and take its foot off the gas.
Creating stars takes time. Bianca took a big leap forward in Tampa, and must now embark on a lengthy title run backed by sharp writing, compelling storylines, and content people want to tune in for. Dropping the belt back to Sasha Banks in a few weeks isn't it. A second, decisive victory over The Boss, followed by a winning feud with Bayley, would be a much safer bet.
Banks and Bayley were two of WWE's biggest quarter-hour ratings winners in 2020. Belair can surpass them, absolutely, but she needs the right backing.
