10 WWE Title Reigns That Never Lived Up To The Victory

From watching on from the sidelines in 2013 to doing the same thing himself eight years later, there was a lot of buzz around Big E holding the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Embarking on his first solo run in years, Big E was building momentum after being drafted away from New Day buddies Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods at the end of 2020. After a run with the WWE Intercontinental Championship, E retrieved the briefcase at Money in the Bank and an obvious storyline was plotted.

Roman Reigns’ dominance was only a year in, but fans were already plotting Big E's cash-in. Building a megastar babyface is a difficult job, but the New Day man looked like a safe bet and the right choice to dethrone the ‘Head of the Table.’

Then, WWE chased a rating, foolishly revealing on social media that Big E would be cashing in on RAW - and then absurdly had him cash in on an injured Bobby Lashley!

Seeing Big E with the WWE Championship was glorious, and the fans were into it, but the title run was off to a bad start simply because it felt like a shortcut. The following months were average at best, with the only noticeable moment being E losing clean to Reigns at Survivor Series.

With little of note to remember about the title reign beyond the cash-in, Big E was a victim of circumstance and panic, as COVID changed the Day One card and saw Brock Lesnar pin the powerhouse for the belt.
