10 WWE Title Reigns That P*ssed Off The Fans
3. Hornswoggle Becomes The Final Cruiserweight Champion
Here's a quick how-to guide for degrading the achievements of incredible cruiserweight performers from years gone by.
The demise of the Cruiserweight Championship had been a slow burn for years. Almost immediately after WWE purchased WCW in 2001 was the title demeaned at every turn, right up until it was retired.
Having been held by legends of the business in the likes of Dean Malenko, Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero, the title was hot-potatoed around the undercard until it reached it's lowest low in 2007. Hey, if you're going to retire a championship, why not completely tarnish it in the process?
Of all people to give the title to as a farewell, it was passed to Hornswoggle who won a six-man Cruiserweight Open and held the championship for two months.
What's worse is the belt was a casualty of the horrid 'Mr McMahon's illegitimate son' story, as Vickie Guerrero cited that Hornswoggle's stature and relationship with the boss would jeopordise his well-being. Fantastic.
