10 WWE Title Reigns That P*ssed Off The Fans
2. The Rock Ends CM Punk's Ruling
This entry should come with an asterisk; it must be stated that not all viewers were disgusted with The Rock's WWE Championship victory at the 2012 Royal Rumble. There is no doubting The Rock is a beloved icon of professional wrestling and now Hollywood, but you'd be hard pressed to find a passionate WWE fan that was annoyed by how this went down.
CM Punk had held the WWE Championship for 434 when he faced The Rock at the Rumble and came up short, ending a title run that drew millions of fans who had long tuned out back to WWE's product.
If that wasn't bad enough, the title was required specifically for the rematch between The Rock and John Cena at WrestleMania 29, a contest so large that it didn't require any championship.
WWE's intentions were clear in its decision making, but to throw a dedicated servent of the company in CM Punk under the bus in exchange for short-term mainstream media exposure was a damn shame to say the least. It was essentially betraying the ethos that allowed WWE to win the Monday Night War; just like WCW, the company has suffered in the long-term.
