Ambrose's reign really was a slog wasn't it?

Big E. was still a Langston at this point and was riding something of a wave as a breakout singles star following his separation from Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee. Still, the match was completely thrown together and the crowd had no reason to be invested in it.

What could have been a lot of fun with some planning and a hot crowd turned into an awkward 10 minute druge, with Langston eventually winning by count-out in a move that protected both guys but didn't exactly do them any favours, either.

In many ways, this match was symptomatic of WWE's booking nerves. It is possible for a championship to be defended or won through a clean pinfall and both men still gain from it, but WWE often misses this point.

Ambrose's long, long reign continued, and Langston would go on to win the Intercontinental Championship from an equally cold Curtis Axel.
