10 WWE Wishes (That Will Never Come True)
5. The Undertaker Vs Sting
To call this a wish in 2021 may be stretching things a little. The two spooky legends are deep into middle age, with Undertaker formally retired and Sting still working but booked very much around his limitations (which is no insult - the guy’s 62 and in phenomenal condition). The time for this match would surely have been WrestleMania 31, a card on which both men performed, and were essentially wasted.
All the same, this may be wrestling’s greatest ever What if? match, beyond even Hogan vs Austin. Two great company men, locker room leaders, masters of reinvention, quasi-supernatural figures who never felt daft or corny.
Sting has recently expressed interest in a cinematic match (Undertaker for his part has always seemed less enthused, stating that the fantasy match “looked better on paper”), but with his departure to AEW, the WWE Hall of Famer is unlikely to lace up boots for Vince McMahon ever again.
It’s probably for the best, and the last thing any wrestling fan wants is for either guy to tarnish their legacy chasing a dream. Won’t happen, probably shouldn’t, but you can’t help wishing it already did.
