10 WWE Wishes (That Will Never Come True)

4. The Shield Triple Threat To Headline WrestleMania

The Shield might be the last great WWE creation. The intention was to put together fresh young superstars in a group, get them over, and then split the team, resulting in three brand new main eventers. And, a few teething problems aside, it worked like a charm.

Seth Rollins was company MVP for much of the late 2010s, Dean Ambrose became hugely popular through force of charisma, and while the inorganic nature of Roman Reigns’ push soured some fans on him, there’s no denying the man’s star power.

The end result should have been a WrestleMania triple threat main event for a major title. Three proper WWE inventions (or reinventions, with Rollins and Ambrose heavily indie-seasoned) in the company’s biggest match of the year, without leaning on nostalgia - that would be something to be proud of.

Instead, The Shield’s sole triple threat was at Battleground 2016, a C show. The match was cool, but a waste of something that could have been truly major. Ambrose has left the building, become bigger than ever, and probably won’t be coming back. The Shield remains a genius creation, but they’ll never get that perfect payoff.
