10 WWE Worst WrestleMania Gimmick Matches

3. The Fiend vs Randy Orton (WrestleMania 37)

We’re bending the rules slightly as the gimmickry took place outside the ring and in the build up - what followed on night two of WrestleMania 37 was a straightforward wrestling match, which was exactly the problem.

The saga of Orton and The Fiend included immolation, resurrection, and Alexa Bliss turning into a creepy schoolgirl (and attempted home wrecker, drawing the ire of Orton’s wife for a suggestive pin). The two men repeatedly attempted to murder one another, with Randy going so far as to douse Wyatt in lighter fluid and set him ablaze (then do his little pose).

So when the WrestleMania blow off was a six minute bog standard bout which got no crazier than Bliss causing a distraction by emitting black goo from her forehead, eyebrows were raised.

This was dire stuff, the limp ending to a feud that few people enjoyed. We could have had another Firefly Funhouse match, or some other inspired nonsense. Instead we got an RKO outta nowhere to bring the empty arena era’s worst business to a boring conclusion.
