2016 promised much for Darren Young. He started it in a strangely popular tag team with Damien Sandow, although that was more about the cult popularity of Sandow than anything else. Young flitted in and around the lower reaches of the card for the first few months of the year, before shocking many by aligning himself with Bob Backlund in May.

Backlund promised to make Darren Young great again, and whilst 'great' was probably stretching that somewhat, things did seem to be improving for the former Nexus member. Young somehow managed to move himself into the position of number one contender for The Miz's Intercontinental Championship, but was unsuccessful in gaining the title.

A feud with Titus O'Neill was the death-knell for the character, and little has been seen of Young since. Young will be promising himself to improve his lot once again in 2017, and maybe even finally become great once more.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
