10 WWE Wrestlers That Went From The Top To The Bottom Then Back Again

2. Braun Strowman

A case of striking when the iron had been switched off three years ago rather than simply still hot, Braun Strowman was as good as anybody when it came to finding a last minute replacement for Roman Reigns as Universal Champion in 2020, but nowhere near as good as he would have been in 2017.

'The Big Dog' got 'The Monster Among Men' all the way over back then, right as Strowman himself found a form that seemed to pitch him as the ideal superhuman compromise between the sort of wrestler fans could get behind the traditional type Vince McMahon has always loved.

For whatever reason, the company then lost their bottle with his booking. A No Mercy loss to Brock Lesnar was as good as a squash considering the ramifications for either man in the aftermath, and further losses to 'The Beast' relegated below Lesnar in a perception never really rectified in the subsequent years.

And "better late than never" isn't always idiomatic in WWE, no matter how much he smiles and waves now he's won the big(ish) one. Odd as the circumstances were, his Universal Title victory was an inevitability, but it remains to be seen if the tenure will be work out for him.
