The Hell in a Cell match turns 23 this year, and what a 23 years it has been. Okay, the gimmick has been devalued over the years, but what in the world of WWE hasn’t? It started off as the Big Bad of WWE gimmick matches, the last resort for when blood feuds needed to end, a hellish structure that fundamentally changed all who entered. Then we started getting matches like Randy Orton vs. Sheamus and Roman Reigns vs. Rusev.

Only three men have been in more than one Cell match and come out victorious every single time. One of the three is Batista, and The Animal is all sorts of unlikely to come out of retirement for a throwaway cell match, although money does to talk. The other two? Brock Lesnar and Kevin Owens.

Both men could find themselves inside Hell in a Cell once again this year, but the smart money would be on Lesnar getting that privilege. Owens is currently out with an injury and who knows what spot he’ll be in when he returns. Lesnar? The Beast Incarnate is just about the very top of the WWE food chain. A rematch with Drew McIntyre will happen, and Lesnar wanting to avenge a clean defeat inside this famous structure makes a lot of sense. If that happens and Lesnar manages to win, he will stand alone with a record of 3-0.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
