What a rollercoaster twelve months it's been for Lio Rush.

Rush began the year as the hype man(ager) of Bobby Lashley, helping him win the Intercontinental Championship in January on Raw. However, following reports of backstage issues for the 25-year-old piece of gold, he parted ways with Lashley following WrestleMania 35 and started an imposed sabbatical from WWE.

Nevertheless, despite claims that he may be done with the company, Rush made a triumphant return to WWE TV in September, defeating Oney Lorcan on the first live episode of NXT to become #1 contender for the Cruiserweight Championship.

Rush captured the renamed NXT Cruiserweight Championship on a subsequent NXT episode and has since gone on to defend his title against the likes of Angel Garza, Kalisto & Akira Tozawa in memorable matches, before dropping the title to Garza this week.

Lio Rush personifies the theory that if you're good enough, it'll shine through eventually. He may have had his issues backstage, but no-one can argue with what he can do between the ropes and hopefully he can channel that into bigger & better things in 2020 on one of the hottest wrestling shows around.
