6. Austin Theory

Austin Theory has had a very up-and-down year within WWE, which has resulted in a very mixed presentation of his character between Vince McMahon and Triple H's version of the company. This has been represented by the fact that he has both won and lost the Money in the Bank contract in the different regimes, as it seems 'The Game' does not see the young star as a world champion-level talent as of yet.

The former member of The Way has found success under Triple H before during his time in NXT, but he was never really considered a title contender on the developmental brand. Theory was given a much greater spotlight as a mentee of the ousted chairman of the board, even competing for McMahon against Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38 this year.

He soon won the Money in the Bank contract, which gave him the opportunity to fight for any title at a time of his choosing. However, he did not choose to cash in on WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, instead choosing to challenge Seth Rollins for the United States title.

It was not a great look to have the young star choose a mid-card title in the first place, but having him fail at his attempt only made the burial seem even more emphatic.
