Finn's character just seemed to carry an extra dimension twelve months ago, before injury curtailed his regrettably short run as the inaugural Universal Champion.

Since returning, his Demon King alter-ego hasn't got much of an airing, which makes sense up to a point. Like a Punjabi Prison match, the whole Jekyll and Hyde thing only really works if you save it for special occasions.

Without it, though, the Irishman has essentially become naught more than a wholesome nice guy; the sort of wrestler who would get counted out of a world title match returning a steel chair to its rightful home next to the ring announcer.

WWE looked to have struck gold when they signed Finn three years ago, but they really need to let him off the leash if they are to see a return on their investment.
